As a Redshirt Senior (2022-23): Competed in all 11 swim meets, including the RMAC and NCAA Division II National Championships… Earned five total Second Team All-RMAC honors while scoring in all four of his individual events at the conference meet to cap his career with 26 total All-RMAC certificates… Scored 55 team points in those four events, placing third in the 100 back, fourth in both the 100 fly and 200 back and ninth in the 50 free… Also helped the Mavs to second place finishes in both the 200 and 400 free relay… Earned a pair of CSCAA All-America honors, the 11th and 12th of his career as a relay only swimmer at the NCAA Championships, his final career meet… Helped the Mavs place eighth in the 200 medley relay and 14th in the 200 free relay… Set season-best and NCAA “B” cut times of 28.50 (50 free), 48.32 (100 back) and 1:47.69 (200 back) during the RMAC Championships… Had season-best times of 45.85 (100 free) and 49.07 (100 fly), a NCAA “B” cut mark, during the TYR/CMU Invitational… Also anchored the Mavs to a school and pool record time 1:26.73 in the 200 medley relay at that meet…  Named as CSC/CoSIDA Academic All-American for the third time earning first team honors for the first time… Was also selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-American for the fourth time, earning first team honors for the second… Also named to the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.

As a Redshirt Junior (2021-22): Competed in ten meets, including the NCAA Division II and RMAC Championships during another multiple-award winning season in multiple strokes… Was a team captain… Earned four CSCAA All-America honors in relays at the national meet to reach double figures as one of CMU’s most decorated swimmers in program history… Also qualified and competed in three individual events… Earned First Team All-America honors as the anchor freestyle leg on CMU’s sixth place 200 medley relay team that set a former-record time of 1:27.00… Also anchored the Mavs to a school-record and ninth place time of 3:12.21 in the 400 medley relay… Swam the second legs on CMU’s  200 and 400 free relay teams that finished 13th and 15th at the national championships… Placed 24th in the 100 back (49.00), 38th in the 100 fly (49.65) and 41st in the 50 free (20.54) in his individual events… Won four RMAC titles, five first team and six overall All-RMAC honors at the conference meet… Claimed the conference’s individual 50 free title in a career-best 20.22 seconds to rank sixth in CMU history… Anchored the Mavs to victory in the 200 free, 200 medley and 400 medley relays… Helped the Mavs set an altitude-adjusted school-record time of 2:57.22 in the 400 free relay… Earned another First Team All-RMAC honor with a second place finish in the 100 back… Posted a personal-best time of 48.04 (converted) to rank third in program history… Also reached the RMAC Championship final in both the 200 back and 100 fly… Earned Second Team All-RMAC honors in the 200 back with a fourth place finish… Placed seventh in the 100 fly… Scored a CMU-leading 64 team points in his four individual events, second most in the entire meet… Accounted for 94 in total, including his share of the relay wins… Swam the second and butterfly leg on CMU’s school, meet and pool-record setting 200 free relay team that touched in 1:20.05 at the A3 Performance Invitational… Also set personal-best and NCAA qualifying times of 1:47.16 (200 back) and 48.75 (100 fly) during the A3 meet, where he won three events, including two relays… Also had three second place finishes while finishing amongst the top-3 in all seven of his events… Ranks sixth in CMU history for the 200 back and seventh in the 100 fly with those times… Also helped the Mavs set a meet record time of 2:59.17 as the anchor leg in the 400 free relay… Won the 100 and 300 back at the CMU Duals… Was named to the RMAC All-Academic Team for the third straight year.

As a Junior (2020-21): Competed in six meets, including the RMAC Championships… Won three RMAC relay titles while winning five total all-RMAC certificates, including four of the first team variety, and advancing to the finals in all three of his individual events, Led-off the 200 medley and 400 medley relay teams as the backstroke… Also swam the second leg on the school-record setting (since broken) 200 free relay team, that posted a time of 1:20.27… Earned an additional First Team All-RMAC honor in the 100 back after finishing second… Had posted an NCAA “B” cut and season-best of 48.55 (altitude-adjusted) in the prelims… Earned Second Team All-RMAC honors in the 50 free with a third place finish… Posted a NCAA “B” cut and season-best time of 20.45 in the prelims… Was the top qualifier out of the 200 back prelims after posting the RMAC’s fastest time of the entire season (1:49.51)… Sacrificed his placement in the finals to attempt to set a 100-yard NCAA qualifying standard split, turning in a time of 49.61 (49.51-altitude adjusted) to place eighth, officially… Accounted for 44 individual points and 74 total team points at the RMAC meet... Won the 200 back at two different dual meets (BYU, Air Force-Day 2)… Named as the Jan. 26 RMAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week after the BYU victory… Also won the 100 back at the Lindenwood Last Chance Meet in a final attempt to qualify for the streamlined NCAA Championships… Went on to be named as the RMAC Academic Athlete of the Year for the second straight campaign… Was also named as a Second Team CoSIDA Academic-All American for men’s at-large sports for the second straight year along with teammate Mahmoud Elgayar… Had been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District and RMAC First Team All-Academic squad as well… Received Honorable Mention CSCAA Scholar All-America honors as well.

As a Sophomore (2019-20): Competed in 11 meets, tied for the most on the team, including the RMAC and NCAA Division II National Championships… Won three titles at the RMAC Championships, winning the 100 back individually while swimming the leadoff backstroke leg on both the winning 200 and 400 medley relays… Also helped the Mavs finish second in the 200 and 400 free relays while finishing third in the 200 back… Earned six All-RMAC certificates, including five first team honors… Earned a total of four CSCAA All-America honors… Was invited to the COVID-19 shortened national meet in both the 100 (48.71) and 200 back (1:47.55) and was seeded 18th in each… Earned First Team All-America honors in each of those events, which were ultimately not contested…  Also set NCAA “B” Cut altitude-adjusted times in his optional events of the 50 (20.40) and 100 free (45.45) and placed 28th in the 50 free at the national meet… Also earned Honorable Mention All-America honors in both the 200 and 400 medley relays… Helped the Mavs place 14th in the 200 medley, which was completed on the first day of the meet… Helped CMU finish ninth in the 400 medley relay preliminaries to qualify for the consolation final, which was not able to be completed due to the outbreak… Also swam on the Mavs’ 18th place 200 free relay team… Set all of his season-best times at the A3 Performance Invitational, where he won both the 100 and 200 back… Also helped the Mavs set since-broken school-record times of 1:20.54 and 1:28.00 in the 200 free and medley relays, respectively at that meet… Won three events (50 free, 100 back, 200 back) at the Jan. 10-11 dual against Mines and the 100 fly against Adams State on Oct. 25, posting an altitude-adjusted time of 52.90 seconds in his lone effort at that discipline… Was named as the RMAC Academic Athlete of the Year for the sport of swimming and diving as the top vote-getter on the All-Academic First Team... Later named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team for men's at large sports... Joined teammate Mahmoud Elgayar as the first two Maverick men's swimmers to earn a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-America squad (Second Team)... Was selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-American for the second straight yer.

As a Freshman (2018-19): Competed in eight meets including the RMAC and NCAA Division II National Championships... Earned a pair of CSCAA Honorable Mention All-America honors in relays... Swam the lead-off (backstroke) leg on CMU's 10th place (400) and 12th place (200) medley relay teams at the national meet turning in season-best times of 22.64 (50 back) and 48.89 (100 back) in the preliminary rounds... Helped the Mavs set a since broken school-record time of 3:14.11 in the 400 medley relay at the NCAA meet... Had earned four total All-RMAC honors at the conference championships, including a first team honor in the 400 medley relay, which the Mavs won... Was also a second team honoree for the 200 free relay and in the 100 back and 50 free individual events... Placed third in the 100 back and fourth in the 50 free... Also finished sixth in both the 100 fly and 200 back events while recording 56 1/2 individual points as a 4-event individual finalist... Had a NCAA "B" Cut time of 20.53 in the 50 free, turned in at the conference meet... Ranks tenth in school-history for the 100 fly (49.62)... Was a member of the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team.


Prep: Was the first swimmer from Mountain Range to win a Front Range League title and qualify for state… Graduated in 2018... Finished second at the Colorado 5A State Championships in the 50 free and fourth in the 100 back… Earned all-America honors in both events… Was a 5A state qualifier all four years advancing to the finals twice... Set two Adams District 17 records and eight Mountain Range records for coach Jeff Johnson and the Mustangs.. Was a 4-time honorable mention academic all-state honoree.

Club: Placed third in the 100 back at the Colorado Swimming Long Course Championships  in July, 2018 while competing for the Front Range Barracudas… Finished fifth at the Western Zone Senior Championships in the 50 free.

Personal: Is majoring in business administration with an emphasis in marketing and a minor in psychology… Son of Chad and Emily Austin... Has one younger sister-- Kaylee... Enjoys spending time with friends, watching cartoons, being in the water and getting outside to catch a view... Is unsure about his future career, but wants a position where he can build connections with others and spread positivity.

Why I Chose CMU: “I was brought here by the beautiful campus and surrounding area, the fun and accepting atmosphere, and my love for swimming."
