Before CMU: Attended Concordia University Irvine, which no longer has a men’s swimming team, in the fall of 2025.

Prep: 2025 graduate of Fossil Ridge High School… Was the Sabercats’ Team Captain… Was an high school all-American and USA Swimming and NISCA Scholastic All-American… Coached by Keaton Brown… Placed eighth in the 50 free at the 2024 CHSAA State Championships.

Club: Was a 2-event finalist at the 2025 Speedo Sectionals while competing for Fort Collins Area Swim Team… Competed with Irvine Novaquatics in his time in California.

Personal: Is majoring in business administration… Aspires for a career in either emergency medicine or first response… Son of Tyson and Jill Barela… Has a younger sister named Paige… Enjoys fly fishing, hiking, surfing, music and gaming.
