2024-25: Was not on the team.
2023-24: Swam in eight meets… Had a strong TYR/CMU Invitational, setting NCAA Championship provisional qualifying altitude-adjusted times of 2:00.20 (200 Breast), 1:50.75 (200 IM) and 3:54.36 (400 IM)… The IM times were both personal bests and the 400 IM ranks him fourth in school history… Also had a personal-best 100 Breast time of 55.58 at that meet to rank seventh in school history… Ranked eighth on the RMAC’s season-long performance list as well… Was tenth on the RMAC list with a personal best 200 Fly mark of 1:50.53 at the home invitational… Was ranked sixth in the RMAC in the 200 Breast and 200 IM.
International 2023: Won the 200-meter butterfly with a long course time of 2:11.40 at the
Íslandsmeistaramót ungmenna in his native Iceland during April… Also set personal-best times of 4:38.00 (400m IM) and 1:05.17 (100m Breast) while claiming four top-4 finishes… Went on to represent his country at the Games of the Small States of Europe, finishing fifth in the 200 fly and eighth in the 400 IM.
2022-23: Competed in all 11 swim meets, including one as an exhibition swimmer… Earned First Team All-RMAC honors in the 200 breast, posting a personal-best and NCAA “B” cut time of 1:59.15 (altitude-adjusted)… Ranks third in program history with that mark… Also scored in his three other individual events racking up 44 team points… Placed fifth in the 400 IM after turning in season-best and NCAA “B” cut time of 4:02.51 (3:57.51-altitude-adjusted) in the prelims… Finished seventh in the 100 breast and 16
th in the 200 IM… Qualified for the NCAA Championships in both the 200 breast and 400 IM, finishing 17
th (2:00.17) and 25
th (3:59.42), respectively… Set a personal-best time of 56.55 in the 100 breast at the TYR/CMU Invitational to rank eighth in program-history… Also had a PB time of 1:52.19 in the 200 IM at that meet.
2022: Joined the program at the semester break... Redshirt season.
Before CMU: Icelandic National Team member… Won the 200-meter (long course) breaststroke title at the 2021 Icelandic National Championships in April, 2021… Also placed second in the 100 breast and third in the 100 fly at that meet…. Went on to set SCM personal bests of 1:03.22 (100 breast), 2:14.36 (200 breast) and 4:29.59 (400 IM), while winning all three events at the Bikakrppni SSI meet in December… Swam for the Sundfelag Hafnarfjardar club team… Club record holder… Coached Mladen Tepavcevic… Also lived in Texas during the fall of 2021, attending San Jacinto College while training with and competing for the Sharks Swim Club in Deer Park… Won the 200 breast while placing second in the 200 IM and fifth in the 100 breast at the Gulf Swimming LSC Southern Senior Championship in December… Set SCY bests of 56.98 (100 breast), 2:00.36 (200 breast), 1:52.20 (200 IM) at that meet.
Personal: 2021 graduate of Flensborg… Is majoring in civil engineering and minoring in finance, hoping to put himself in a good position for any engineering company… Son of Jon Thor Thorvaldsson and Irina Oskarsdottir… Has two siblings— Lovisa and Atli… Enjoys watching sports, mostly UFC and soccer… Also loves going out with friends and swimming.
Why I Chose CMU: “I chose CMU because I strongly believe that I can reach my potential in both swimming and academics. I also want to study civil engineering and CMU seems like a good Engineering school.”
