A Message from Coach Winegard:
The Men’s Hockey Program is relatively new, and in our short time has grown immensely in talent, fan base, and popularity. With our home rink, the Glacier Ice Arena, reopening in January 2013, the hockey team was finally able to complete a full season in 2014-2015. The team plays in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Div. III. We practice 3x per week and play 35 games in a season stretching from August to February. Our record for 2014-2015 was 16-8-2, finishing 10th out of 42 teams in our Pacific Division. We also beat the #1 ranked team Metro State in overtime at our home rink. Our division is made up of teams from: California, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Wyoming, Utah, Kansas, and Colorado. CMU players hail from across the United States, and even Europe and Canada.
The goal of the players, and myself, is continue to build on the success of the past season, to further interest in the CMU Hockey program, and to ultimately win a national championship.
Over the past year the Hockey Team has garnered increasing attention from both the CMU community and the larger Grand Junction area, as our attendance for home games, and local media coverage has shown. We want to continue to build this interest and to bring exciting, fast, and physical hockey to an increasingly larger audience.
Go Mavs!
