2010 Hall of Honor Inductees

Grand Junction, Colo. — Mesa State College is pleased to announce the 2010 Hall of Honor inductees. Tracy Bennett, Pam Glenn Hagar, Jack Perrin and Doug Schakel will be inducted Friday, January 15 at Brownson Arena on the campus of Mesa State College. This is the 12th class to be inducted. The Hall of Honor banquet will be held in conjunction with Saturday, January 16 women’s and men’s basketball games versus UC-Colorado Springs beginning at 6 p.m.

Tracy Bennett
– Football – 1986, 1988, 1989…Two-time NAIA All-American (’86, ’88)…Kodak All-America Kicker Award honoree…Two-time All Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference selection (’86, ’88)…Team advanced to the NAIA quarterfinal round in 1986 and 1988…Holds MSC records for; Most PAT’s in a season (60-NAIA Record), career (185)…Most Points by a Kicker in a game (18), season (103-NAIA Record), career (354)…Tied for longest field goal (54 yards)…Second all time for most field goals in a season (21)…Played a combined six years at the professional level with the Denver Broncos, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the World Football League and Arena Football League…Born and raised in Colorado he spent his childhood making movies, photography and kicking a football…Following his playing career he moved to Los Angeles where he has photographed more than 30 films including “GO”, “Click”, and “Get Smart”…With a successful career as a photographer he founded ChipShot Films with his sights set on producing movies.

Pam Glenn (Hagar) – Volleyball – 1992-1995…Three-time All Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference selection…Team Captain…RMAC Tournament Most Valuable Player…Ranks second all time in total blocks (649), block assists (482), digs (1783), games played (528)…Ranks third overall in service aces (143)…Ranks sixth overall in kills (1389) and attack percentage (.304)…Ranks 12th overall in kills per game (2.63)…Academic standout at MSC on the Dean’s List and President’s List…Native of Douglas, Wyoming currently living in Casper, Wyoming where she teaches and coaches at CY Junior High.

Jack Perrin – Head Football Coach – Teacher - 1966-1979 – Coached MSC as a junior college and through the transition to Mesa State College and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (1975)…Four-time Intermountain Collegiate Athletic Conference (ICAC) title (1967, 1968, 1969, 1970)…In 1968 the team finished in a three-way tie for first place in the ICAC with Dixie and Ricks College…In 1967 the team was ranked No. 2 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA)...Mesa’s first full season in the RMAC was 1976…RMAC Coach of the Year honors in 1977…Seven of his players went on to play professional football…Jack attended Wood River High School in Wood River, Illinois…Earned his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Northeast Missouri State University…Lettered in football and track & field.
Doug Schakel – Head Men’s Basketball Coach – Teacher – Administrator – 1978-2001…During his 18 seasons at Mesa State he posted a 304-195 record, for a .609 winning percentage…In 1978 he hit the 200-win mark and Number 300 was an 86-56 win over New Mexico Highlands on Feb. 11, 1985…During the 1990-1991 season, Schakel reached the 400-win milestone for his career on Jan. 26, 1996, he reached the 500 win plateau at New Mexico Highlands with a 70-61 victory…During his tenure he guided the Mavericks to six RMAC Men's Basketball Championships…Schakel developed the Mesa State College Basketball Camps in 1978, which are still some of the largest camps in the country today…He coached nine All-Americans, several Academic All-Americans, posted the best mark in MSC history and the fourth-best record in Colorado collegiate basketball history… Schakel served as the Mavericks Director of Athletics for two years (1979-1981) and then again was asked to be the head of the MSC Athletic Department from 1998-2001…In 2001-2002 he served as the Mavs' Women's Basketball Assistant Coach in charge of offense, the team posted a 17-2 RMAC record and became the first-ever RMAC women's basketball team to host the NCAA Division II North Central Regional…Schakel spent 30 years as a head basketball coach with a record of 503-285 (.638 winning percentage)…A native of Iowa he graduated from Central Iowa College.
