2021-22 (Redshirt Junior): Competed in eight meets, including the RMAC Championships… Was an exhibition swimmer at the conference meet… Set four season-best times, including a personal-best 100 free time of 47.07 there… Was also a NCAA provisional qualifier in the 200 free with a season-best time of 1:39.21… Had a season-best of 9:41.58 in the 1000 free and a 50 free split of 22.41 in the opening half of the 100-yard event… Also had a good A3 Performance Invitational, setting a NCAA “B” cut time of 4:33.33 in the 500 free while placing third in the 200 free.
2020-21 (Junior): Competed in five meets during the pandemic-shortened season, including the RMAC Championships… Earned three first team and five total All-RMAC certificates while leading-off CMU’s winning 800 free relay team… Finished second behind teammates in both the 500 and 1000 freestyle events, setting NCAA “B” cut times in each… Turned in altitude-adjusted times of 4:32.94 and 9:28.71 in those events… Earned First Team All-RMAC honors in both of those events as well as the 800 free relay… Earned second team plaudits with third place finishes in both the 200 and 1650 free… Set a personal-best and NCAA “B” cut altitude-adjusted time of 1:38.63 in the 200 free… Ranks tenth in program history with that mark… Had a converted time of 16:07.93 in the 1650 free… Scored 66 team points in his four individual events, tied for third most in the entire meet... Scored 76 total team points when including his share of the 800 free relay points... Had six combined top-5 finishes in the Mavs’ four dual meet wins earlier in the season… Had a personal-best time of 4:19.88 (converted) in the 400 IM on the second day of the Air Force Dual Meet Invites.
2019-20 (Sophomore): Competed in nine meets, including the RMAC Championships and the Horsetooth Open Water Swim… Placed in the top ten in all five events at the RMAC Championshps, scoring 52 team points in his four individual efforts… Earned a pair of All-RMAC certificates… Was a first team honoree in the 1,000 free after posting a personal-best and NCAA “B” cut time of 9:22.81 (altitude-adjusted) to place second… Ranks seventh in program history in that discipline… Was also a second team selection in the 1,650 free after finishing fourth… Placed sixth in the 500 free and tenth in the 200 free…. Also helped the Mavs win the “B” section of the 800 free relay… Had a very strong A3 Performance Invitational… Set then or current personal-bests in three events posting NCAA “B” cut altitude-adjusted times of 1:39.74 (200 free), 4:29.70 (500 free) and 15:48.55 (1650 free)…. Still ranks sixth in program history for the 1,650 free and seventh for the 500 free… Won the 200 free in the Oct. 25 dual at Adams State… Placed fifth at the Horsetooth Open Water Swim to begin the season, finishing the 2.4-mile course in 53:57… Named to the RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.
2018-19 (As a Freshman): Competed in eight meets, including the RMAC and NCAA Division II National Championships... Earned CSCAA Honorable Mention All-America honors as a member of the Mavs' 14th place 800 free relay team at nationals... Won three individual and four overall conference titles to earn First Team All-RMAC honors in each event... Won the 500 (4:31.02), 1000 (9:24.64) and 1650 free (15:55.25) crowns all with season-best times... Also helped the Mavs win the 800 free relay in 6:40.09... Also won the consolation heat of the 200 free in a season-best time of 1:40.37 as he scored a team-high 69 individual points; second most of the team; at the RMAC meet... Had won both the 500 and 1000 free at the Mines dual on Jan. 11-12.
Prep: Member of the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay state record setting teams at Eldorado High School…. Also set the 200 and 500 free school records… Placed second in the 500 free and fifth in the 100 back at the New Mexico State Championships as a senior.
Personal: Son of Joshua and Jennifer Ellis… Has a younger brother (Nathan)... Is majoring in exercise science with aspirations of becoming a physical therapist... Enjoyss hanging out with friends, going hiking, fishing and being outdoors.
Why I Chose CMU: “I chose CMU for the close community that there is within the school along with the multiple outdoors and engaging activities there are to do on campus and in Grand Junction as well."
