AKUMAL, Mexico— The Colorado Mesa University men's golf team is still leading the team standings and has three of its five players inside the top ten of the individual standings following Monday's second round of The Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya which will wrap up on Tuesday here at the Tulum Country Club.
Led by sophomore
Henry Starr's 1-under par round of 71 and an even par round of 72 from senior
Baptiste Laborde, the Mavericks posted a team score of 298 (+10) in Monday's round. They lead UT Permian Basin, by two shots and are seven shots ahead of UT Tyler, which had the day's best round, a 2-over par round of 290.
The Mavs are at 587 (+11) overall after posting a Sunday round of 289 (+1) to open up a 5-shot lead over UTPB.
Starr made four birdies in his Monday round and now sits at even par 144 through 36 of the tournament's 54 holes. He is in second place out of 50 players from ten teams, just four shots behind UT Tyler's Blake Harwell, who posted a 4-under par round of 68, more than eight shots better than field average of 76.06 for the day.
Laborde is tied for third at 145 (+1) and made three birdies throughout his second round.
Will Alexander is also inside the top ten in a tie for eighth place 149 (+5) after posting a 74 on Monday, a slight improvement over his opening round scorecard of 74.
Freshman
Colby Hutton, who co-led the tournament after Sunday's round, is now in a tie for 14
th at 152 (+8). He recorded an 81 on Monday.
Senior
Dylan Everett recorded an 83 on Monday and is now a tie for 28
th at 155 (+11).
Tuesday's final round is slated to begin with a modified shotgun start at 7:45 a.m. (6:45 a.m. Mountain).
