GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 12 Colorado Mesa baseball team closed the regular season on Saturday (May 3) afternoon with a 13-3 win over the visiting MSU Denver Roadrunners at The Diamond at Hamilton Ballpark.
Senior
Paul Schoenfeld extended his hitting streak to 26 games with a single to right field to lead off the bottom of the third inning. The Wichita, Kan. native finished the game 4-for-6 with three runs scored and a run driven in. He had an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth as a part of a three-run inning.
Cameron Cartwright belted his 15
th home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth which made the score 6-1 at the time. Cartwright finished the game 2-for-3 three runs scored and two runs driven in. He also doubled home the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning.
Ethan Nunez hammered an 0-1 pitch in the bottom of the sixth inning for a thre-run home run to extend the Mavericks lead to 9-1. Nunez finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four runs driven in. He also had an RBI double in the bottom of the third.

Max Valdez had a pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the seventh inning before
Declan Wiesner hit a three-run double in his lone at-bat of the game.

Ethan Ezor had a multi-hit game going 2-for-4.

Jordan Pace earned the win in relief to move his record to 3-0 on the season. Pace pitched two shutout innings and threw just 18 pitches in the process.
CJ Zwahlen,
Brenden Morris and
JJ Almeda pitched the final three innings of the game and combined to allow two runs on two hits, walked one and struck out two.
As a staff, the Mavericks limited the Roadrunners to eight total hits in the final two games of the series.
Colorado Mesa will enter the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament as the No. 1 seed with the tournament set to begin on Wednesday May 7 at The Diamond at Hamilton Ballpark.
