#13 Mavericks season comes to an end in loss to Patriots

TYLER, Texas – The No. 13 Colorado Mesa baseball season came to an end on Saturday (May 17) afternoon after suffering their second loss of the NCAA South Central Region Tournament to Texas-Tyler 14-4.

The Patriots built a 6-0 lead before the Mavericks could get on the board. TJ Rheem laced a double into the left center gap that brought home Stevenson Reynolds to cut the lead to 6-1 after five innings of play.

The dagger came in the top half of the sixth inning when the Patriots scored seven runs on six hits in the frame to mount a 13-1 lead at the time.

Cameron Cartwright stepped to the plate and hammered the first pitch he saw over the wall in left field for a three-run home run. It was his 21st home run of the season and RBIs 79, 80, and 81 on the season that cut into the Patriot lead to 13-4.

The Mavericks surrendered a run in the top of the ninth to cap the scoring in the game.

Seven pitchers took to the mound for the Mavericks with the starter Sage Ferguson taking the loss to drop to 3-2 on the season.

Colorado Mesa finishes the season with a 42-14 record.
