COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The No. 13 Colorado Mesa baseball team allowed six runs in the final two innings in an 11-10 loss to the UCCS Mountain Lions in the series final on Sunday (Apr. 13) afternoon at Mountain Lion Field in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
Trailing 5-4 entering the top of the seventh inning, Colorado Mesa scored four runs in the frame to take the lead 8-5.
Joey Blank delivered a two-run single to right field while
Stevenson Reynolds had a RBI double.
Kennedy Hara concluded the scoring with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Blank on the play.
The Mavericks got a little insurance in the top of the eighth when
Cameron Cartwright hit a two-run home run over the fence in right field.
The Mountain Lions went on to score six unanswered in the next two innings.
Blank finished the game 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored while Hara went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two runs driven in.
Paul Schoenfeld went 2-for-5 with two runs scored to round out the Mavericks with multiple hits.
Brenden Morris was saddled with the loss to fall to 1-1 on the season.
The Mavericks will be on the road next week as they travel to Denver for a four-game series with the Regis Rangers. Due to the Easter on Sunday, the series will begin on Thursday at 3pm.
