#20 Mavs shutout Rangers in final regular season home game

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Scoring a goal in each half and outshooting the Rangers 21-3 in yet another dominant RMAC performance, the #20 Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer Team worked their way to 2-0 win over Regis University this afternoon at Community Hospital Unity Field.

Still in a tight two-way race for the conference title, the Mavericks are now 12-2-2 this season while remaining undefeated in RMAC play with an 8-0-2 record. They sit at 2.60 points per match, which is just ahead of Colorado School of Mines in second place with 2.54 PPM. Each school has one game remaining in their regular season schedule which will dictate the conference winner.

Regis falls to 9-4-4 (5-3-3 RMAC) with the loss today but have already clinched a spot in the conference tournament.

Colorado Mesa earned their 13th shutout in the win as well, while closing out their final regular season home game without giving up a goal. In the Mavs' nine matches at home, they did not concede a single goal while outscoring opponents 23-0.

Scoring the two goals today were the duo of Mari Ige and Ellie Duncan for the Mavs with Katie Lozano-Monjaraz also picking up an assist.

Scoring just one goal in the first half, the Mavs were able to take the lead in the 18th minute after Ige put her team on the board for the game-winner.

Ige scored from outside the penalty in her shot with Lozano-Monjaraz earning the assist after crossing the ball over from the corner of the field. This was Ige's first goal of the season.

Going into half, Colorado Mesa dominated the shooting category with a 10-1 advantage over the Rangers while totaling six corner kicks and giving up none in return.

In the second half they challenged even more outshooting the Rangers 11-2. Regis only managed two of their shots to be on goal, but both were saved by Keely Wieczorek.

In the 69th minute the Mavs added to their lead by scoring their final goal of the day, this time coming from Duncan.

Duncan broke past two defenders in her score while finding the bottom right corner of the net and past a diving goalkeeper.

Duncan is now at four goals in her freshman season, while ranking second on the team.

In the end, as previously mentioned, the Mavs outshot the Rangers 21-3 in the contest while owning seven of those shots on goal.

Wieczorek bumped her save total to 49 as well while being supported by the Mavs' defense who is still top five in the nation.

Playing to one more regular season game now, the Mavs have a short turnaround this upcoming Wednesday when they head to Westminster to take on the Griffins for a winner takes all conference finale. Following Wednesday's results they will find out when they play next in the conference championship depending on seedings.
