PARIS, France— Colorado Mesa University freshman triathlete
Emma Meyers made her Paralympic debut and Maverick history on Monday during the Paris 2024 Games, finishing ninth in the PTS4 Paratriathlon race with a time of one hour, 21 minutes, 44 seconds.
The Pensacola, Florida native and 18-year old, was the youngest member of the entire Team USA Paratriathlon squad, which spanned across 11 different classifications. She is also CMU's first Paralympian.
Meyers completed the 750-meter swim in the River Seine with a time of 14:01 and was in fifth place after that segment. She then completed 20-kilometer bike segment over four laps around heart of the French capital in 40:44. She had a 5K run time of 24:53 and spent 2:06 in the two transition zones before finishing on the famous Pont Alexandre III Bridge.
Team USA won three gold and eight overall medals in the 11 different classifications that went off in waves throughout the morning. Both of those counts topped the overall medal table.
Great Britain's Megan Richter took the gold Meyer's PTS4 race with a time of 1:14.30 passing countrywoman Hannah Moore during the running segment. Moore finished in 1:16.01 to claim the bronze while Spain's Marta Frances Gomez claimed the silver in 1:15.10, also surpassing Moore during the run segment.
Great Britain was second behind the United States in both gold (2) and total medals (5) won throughout the day.
A replay stream of all 11 classifications can be seen on Peacock. The PTS4 wave was the last to go off, starting roughly 4 ½ hours into the stream.
Meyers will now enjoy a few days in Paris before returning to Grand Junction to begin her collegiate career with the Mavericks. When she first competes for CMU, she will become the first Para triathlete to ever compete in the sport at the varsity NCAA level nation-wide.
