PUEBLO, Colo. — Matching its best start since the spring of 2021, the Colorado Mesa men's tennis team improved to 3-0 in duals with a 4-3 victory Saturday (Sept. 14) over Newman in the Pueblo Duals.
The Mavericks rattled off four singles victories to seal the deal, led by Henry Scheck's seventh straight match win this fall, 7-5, 6-1 over Nicolo Lippolis of Newman at No. 2 singles.
Romain Payan, Philemon Jabin and Emil Hultman all won their singles matches in the middle of the singles lineup. Payan claimed a 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, Jabin won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 and Hultman won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5.
William Leschig dropped a tough 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) decision at No. 1 singles and Jamison Pfingston lost a third-set tiebreaker at No. 6, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10–3)
The victory wrapped up CMU's weekend in the Pueblo Duals at Pueblo City Park.
Next up for the Mavericks is the ITA West Regional Championships, starting Sept. 26 at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex in Azusa, Calif.
