Mavs searching for first RMAC win in two matches this week

Grand Junction, Colo. - The Colorado Mesa University Men's Soccer Team will move onto week two of RMAC play this week as they find themselves in two matches facing off against opponents Colorado School of Mines and MSU Denver. 

The Mavs will host just their second home game of this season this Thursday, Oct. 10 when they play Colorado School of Mines before heading to Denver on Sunday, Oct. 13 to take on MSU Denver. 

After being on the road for eight of their nine matches this season the Mavs will finally get some time in Grand Junction this week and next as four of their next five matches will be played at home. 

Colorado Mesa is currently 3-4-2 (0-1-1 RMAC) and in their last two games have gone 0-1-1 after falling to Regis University 4-2 and playing to a draw against South Dakota Mines in a 1-1 decision. 

While being outscored in their two most recent matches, the Mavs still have outscored opponents this season 16-12 and currently average 1.78 goals per game compared to the 1.33 they give up per game. 

Colorado Mesa has taken 127 shots with 64 of them being on goal for a .504 percentage. Their 7.11 shots on goal per game is marked as the best in the conference. 

A staggering 12 different players have scored goals this season for the Mavericks with only four of them having more than one.  Marc Bonafe, Matteo Bonelli, Matheus Lazzuri and Kensho Negi all have two goals to tie for the team lead. Bonafe also is the team leader in assists with four. He leads the team with eight points. 

The Mavs goalkeeper, Diego Chavez, has totaled 46 saves on the year and through the team's nine games has recorded two shutouts. He holds a .793 save percentage while only allowing 1.33 goals per game on 154 shots faced. Chavez holds the highest amount of saves of any goalkeeper in the conference this season. 

The Orediggers of Colorado School of Mines are the Mavs' first opponent this week and this season have endured much struggle. They currently sit in last place in the conference with a 1-9 record overall and are 0-2 in RMAC. They enter Thursday's game on a six-game losing streak. 

Their lone win comes against #9 Point Loma Nazarene University on Sept. 14. 

Mines has been outscored by opponents 6-22 this season and only average .60 goals per game. Ayman Bushara and Gabriel Rodriguez have both scored two goals apiece for the team as only four players total have scored. Rodriguez holds their lone game-winner. 

The Roadrunners of MSU Denver close out the Mavs weekend and sit at 3-5-2 this season. They are tied with CMU in conference standings at 0-1-1. They will face off with Westminster University on Thursday, Oct. 10 before playing the Mavs. 

MSU Denver has been outscored 11-15 this season with eight different players having scored at least one goal. The only two players to have more than one goal are Luke Bone and Nicco Schiappa with two apiece. 

In their last two matches they have gone 0-1-1 with both decisions coming against ranked RMAC opponents in #20 CSU Pueblo and #4 UCCS.
