Mavs to host single home match this week

Grand Junction, Colo. - The Colorado Mesa University Men's Soccer Team will look to play just a single home match this week as they host RMAC opponent Colorado Christian University in the first of a three-game home stand at Community Hospital Unity Field.

The Mavs have only played two home games to this point with the nine others being at away or neutral sites.

This week's game will take place Friday night and is set for a 4 p.m. start with the Women's Soccer game to follow right after.

Through 11 games CMU currently holds a 3-6-2 record and are still searching for their first win in conference play as they are 0-3-1 in the RMAC. There are six regular season games remaining on their schedule with all of them being conference matches.

Despite struggling recently, the Mavs have still outscored opponents this season 17-16 and have scored the fifth most goals in conference. Regis University has scored the most with 23 goals in 12 games played.

12 different players have totaled goals for the Mavs with Marc Bonafe leading the team with three goals himself. Matteo Bonelli, Kensho Negi and Matheus Lazzuri each have two goals to tie for second on the team.

Bonafe also serves as the team leader in assists as he has four. His 10 total points lead the Mavs.

In the net, goalkeeper Diego Chavez has amassed 54 saves this season while facing 184 shots. He has collected two shutouts in 2024 and currently boasts a .787 save percentage. His highest save total came against Regis University on Oct. 3 when he recorded nine saves.

The Mavs' lone opponent this week, the Colorado Christian University Cougars, are currently 3-3-6 this season and in RMAC play have fared 1-2-1 record. In their two most recent matches they have been defeated by ranked opponents as they lost to #4 UCCS 2-0 before just falling to #9 CSU Pueblo 1-0.

Similar to CMU, a multitude of players have scored for the Cougars with 10 different players registering goals. Lucas Peruzo leads the bunch with four himself. Luca Casci and Tiago Gomes both follow close behind with three and two goals apiece.

As a team they have outscored opponents 16-14, but since starting conference play have been outscored 4-6 through four matches.

This is the first time this season that the Mavs will only play one game in the week as every other week has featured two or more games.

Friday night's game will be streamed on the RMAC Network with live stats available to follow along with. Tickets can be purchased at cmumavericks.com/tickets.
