Men’s Soccer drops road match to Roadrunners

Denver, Colo. - The Colorado Mesa University Men's Soccer Team would suffer their sixth loss of the season in today's contest as they fell in a RMAC match against opponent Metropolitain State University Denver in a 2-0 decision at Assembly Athletic Complex. Today's loss is the third time the Mavericks have been shut out this season as they are still searching for their first win in conference play.

Following this match the Mavs now hold a 3-6-2 record while being 0-3-1 in RMAC play. MSU Denver moves to 4-5-3 while earning their first conference victory from today's match to be 1-1-2 in RMAC play.

The Roadrunner's would challenge offensively early in today's match as they tallied both of their goals in the first half and both within five minutes of each other.

They would first score in the 24th minute when a long Roadrunner drive down the pitch ended with Cooper Landry crossing the ball to Charlie Matsumoto in the center of the penalty area who would then flick the ball to the bottom right corner of the net to take the early 1-0 lead.

The Roadrunners would then attack again in the 29th minute as Dallas Baer would receive a long leading pass up field to which he then displayed some fancy footwork before chipping the ball past a diving Mav goalkeeper into the left side of the net. Luke Bone would receive the assist on the goal as the game now moved to 2-0.

The second half would provide 15 combined shots from the teams but neither would find the net as the match ended at 2-0 with Metro defending any comeback attempts the Mavs were trying to build.

In the first half of play the Mavs would only attempt one shot before taking nine more in the second half. They would be out shot by the Roadrunners who took 14 shots on the day.

Daniel Paulsson and Joao Pedro Moraes would lead CMU with two shots each as five other players would attempt one shot apiece.

Diego Chave would total six saves in the box while facing eight shots on goal.

Following this weekend's action, Colorado Mesa will return home for a single match this next week as they prepare to play Colorado Christian University in yet another RMAC contest. The Mavs and Cougars will face off at Community Hospital Unity Field at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18.
