With eight saves and a clean sheet,
Diego Chavez continued his hot stretch of goalkeeping and was rewarded with his second straight RMAC Goalkeeper of the Week award.
Chavez made six saves against Regis in a 3-1 victory and made two highlight-reel stops to preserve a shutout in a 2-0 win over Colorado Christian. The two wins improved Chavez and CMU's record to 5-2-1 on the season. The Mavericks are unbeaten in their past five matches entering the start of RMAC play this upcoming weekend.
Chavez leads the RMAC and ranks tied for sixth in Division II with 43 saves. He has allowed only seven goals in eight matches so far in 2023, good for a 0.87 goals-against average in 720 minutes played. The redshirt sophomore has two shutouts and 21 saves in his last three appearances.
Chavez is the only Maverick men's soccer player to win an RMAC Player of the Week award this season. Both Chavez and CMU women's soccer goalkeeper Keely Wieczorek now have two Goalkeeper of the Week awards apiece in 2023.
The Mavericks open up RMAC play at home this weekend with a pair of home matches, facing Regis on Thursday at 7 p.m. and South Dakota Mines on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
