GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The top-ranked Colorado Mesa baseball team never backed off the gas pedal and claimed the 2023 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament Championship after a 21-3 dismantling of Regis on Saturday (May 13) afternoon at The Diamond at the Bus Bergman Sports Complex.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Fountain Valley, Calif. native smoked a line drive to center field that got past the fielder allowing Villafuerte to circle the bases for the inside-the-park round tripper. It was his 12
th home run of the season and gave the Mavericks a 17-2 lead.
Junior

With the bases loaded, Reynolds sent a drive to deep center field for the grand slam and the 8-1 lead at the time. It was his sixth home run of the season

Paul Schoenfeld went back-to-back in the seventh inning that pushed Colorado Mesa over the 20-run threshold in the game.
Caleb Thomason hit his second home run in as many days in the fourth inning. This one, a two-run shot to right field for his sixth of the season.
Robert Sharrar,
Declan Wiesner, and
Jonathan Gonzalez each finished the game with multiple hits.
RMAC freshman pitcher of the year
Liam Hohenstein got the start and didn't disappoint. The Rock Canyon High School product allowed two runs on two hits, walked four and struck out five in five innings of work to improve his record to 8-0 on the season.
Hohenstein handed the ball off to his bullpen who were equally impressive.
Cole Seward,
David Craig,

Kyle Miller combined to allow just one run on three hits, walked none and struck out four in four innings of work. The group didn't allow a hit after the sixth inning.
Colorado Mesa moves their record to 45-9 on the season with the win and gives them their first RMAC Tournament Championship since the 2019 season. The Mavericks were all but assured a spot in the tournament as they entered the tournament as the No. 2 team in the NCAA South Central Regional Rankings but now have earned the conference's automatic bid with the win.
