#4 Mavericks claim their 11th straight RMAC Championship

LAS VEGAS, N.M. – The No. 4 Colorado Mesa Mavericks completed the four-game sweep of the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys on Sunday (Apr. 30) with a 29-8 lopsided win in the series finale at Brandt Field.

With the win and/or the MSU Denver loss, the Mavericks claim the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Regular Season title for the 26th time in the program's history and it is the 11th straight time they have claimed the crown. They will once again have hosting duties for the conference tournament which will begin on Wednesday May 10.

Colorado Mesa jumped out to a 10-0 lead before Highlands even came to the plate in the first inning. They were able to plate runs in six of the seven runs they batted in with the fewest runs being three in any of those innings.

Seven players hit home runs in the game with two coming off the bat of Kolby Felix. The freshman finished the game 3-for-5 with three runs scored, five runs driven in, a double and the two round-trippers.

Felix along with Max Valdez and Harrison Rodgers were the only players that started the game that homered. Brent Renteria, Jordan Ellison and Braden WInget all came into the game as substitutions then homered. Renteria went 3-for-3 with two runs scored, three runs driven in.

Five players finished with multiple hits.

The Mavericks played 20 position players in the game with 18 of them reaching base with a hit while another walked twice.

Colorado Mesa outscored the Cowboys 76-22 in the four games.

Senior Blake Rohm received his second start of the season and came away with a no decision. He allowed one run on two hits, walked one and struck out five in three innings of work.

David Craig is credited with the win after pitching a scoreless fifth inning.

The Mavericks complete the road portion of their schedule and finished that section undefeated in the RMAC schedule going a perfect 16-0 for the first time in program history. Their lone road losses came during the non-conference portion of their schedule.

Colorado Mesa will return home for their final regular season games against Adams State. Thursday (May 4) will be the annual Fireworks game with a theme of 'May the fourth be with you' and will take place at Suplizio Field beginning at 6:05pm. The remainder of the series will take place at The Diamond at the Bus Bergman Sports Complex.
