FRESNO, Calif.— The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team closed out their 4-match swing in Fresno with a needed 4-3 win over the Dominican University of California Penguins on Monday afternoon here at the Fresno State University Tennis Courts.
The victory allowed the Mavericks to finish up their trip with a 2-2 record and pushed their overall record to 7-10, including a 2-5 mark against fellow Pacific West Conference opponents.
Dominican fell to 4-5.
The match came down to the bitter end as
Paige Furin came from a set down to win a third-set tie-breaker by a 9-7 score over Haley Garcia in the No. 6 singles match to clinch the overall victory. Furin had won the second set, 6-1 after dropping the first, 6-4.
Furin and
Julianna Campos also delivered a key doubles win, as they won their third flight encounter over Hannah Lam-Truong and Zoe Coggins.
Issy Coman and
Macy Richards also won the No. 2 doubles, match 6-2 to give the Mavs the early 1-0 team lead after the Penguins had won the No. 1 doubles match.
In singles play, each team won three matches.

Richards was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Astrid Craig at No. 3 and went 3-1 throughout the weekend to pick up her tenth win of the season while moving back to .500 overall at 10-10.
Coman the put the Mavericks up 3-1 as she claimed a 6-0, 6-4 win over Gina Dudley at No. 2 singles.
However, the Penguins won at No. 5 and 4 singles to level the overall score at 3, setting up the winner take all No. 6 singles affair.
The Mavs will be off until Mar. 31 when they begin a 3-match swing down Colorado's Front Range and the I-25 corridor at PacWest rival MSU Denver.
