DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball won their third straight game by outlasting a very physical game in a 65-60 win over the MSU Denver Roadrunners on Saturday (Feb. 11) afternoon at the Auraria Events Center in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.
Colorado Mesa got a huge night from
Tia Slade as she scored a career-high 22 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field. She added five rebounds and turned the ball over just one time.
The Mavericks led nearly the entire game as they had a 36:58 to 2:36 edge in time with the lead. They took the lead at 15-14 after a
Monica Brooks free-throw with 2:45 to play in the first quarter and never trailed after that.
They led by as many as 13 with 3:48 to play in the third quarter after
Megan Pohs nailed a pull-up two pointer to make it 46-33. But that lead would not be safe as the Roadrunners made a run.
MSU Denver would even the score at 60-60 with 1:19 to play in the game but Colorado Mesa would end the game on a 5-0 run with Slade contributing three of those points.
The Maverick defense limited MSU Denver to just 33.3 percent shooting from the field and just three made three-point baskets. The Roadrunners big advantage came at the free-throw line as they were 25-for-35 from the line while the Mavericks were just 15-for-21.
Monica Brooks finished with 12 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Roadrunner Kendra Parra led all scorers with 23 points.
Colorado Mesa will return home for matchups with CSU Pueblo and New Mexico Highlands next weekend in Brownson Arena.
