Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado Mesa men's soccer managed a point on the road against the defending NCAA runners-up, as the No. 18 Mavericks played No. 5 CSU Pueblo to a 0-0 draw in RMAC action on Sunday.
The result extends CMU's unbeaten streak to 13 games, becoming the second-longest streak in program history. The Mavericks are 4-0-4 in RMAC play and 9-2-5 overall. They have not lost since a September 7 setback to then-No. 22 Northwest Nazarene.
The Mavericks and ThunderWolves ended up all square despite CSU Pueblo outshooting Colorado Mesa 19-6 over the course of the match. The Mavericks did not register a single shot in the second half, while the ThunderWolves took nine.
Diego Chavez made four saves in goal for the Mavericks while ThunderWolves keeper Tristan Whitmore made two saves of Maverick shots on goal. Chavez made three of his four saves in the first half, then made a stop of Jack Pascoe in the 83
rd minute. CSU Pueblo's best chance of the game may have come with just 90 seconds left to play, but Ignatius DeMark's header went over the bar.
Manuel Ponce Casas had two of CMU's six shots on the day, while
Matheus Lazzuri and
Hayes Malone registered shots on goal. A total of 23 different Mavericks logged game time on Sunday.
The hard-fought 90 minutes continues what has become a burgeoning rivalry with CSU Pueblo, which began when the Mavericks beat CSUP in the championship game of the 2021 RMAC Tournament. The ThunderWolves then beat the Mavericks twice in 2022 during a breakout campaign in which they advanced all the way to the NCAA championship game.
The Mavericks will wrap up the RMAC regular season with a pair of home games next weekend, with the Mavs facing Adams State on Friday at 7 p.m. and Fort Lewis on Sunday at noon. The Mavericks and CSU Pueblo are currently tied for second in the conference with 16 points, one behind Fort Lewis for the conference lead.
