GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Kylie Wells scored two goals and added an assist to pace the attack for a CMU women's soccer program that racked up another lopsided RMAC result with a 5-0 win over Western Colorado.
Madison DeHerrera had a goal and an assist for CMU while
Sauvelyne Randel and
Sophia Beames also scored for the Mavericks. Beames found the net in her first appearance since September 24.
Colorado Mesa, ranked tied for fifth nationally, improves to 11-0-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the RMAC with the victory. The Mavericks are outscoring opponents 37-4 all season and are outscoring RMAC opponents 21-2.
Keely Wieczorek tied a career high with five saves. A pair of Western Colorado goalkeepers combined for nine saves, with Aubree Orosco making six stops and conceding four goals and Jadyn Lozano making three saves against one goal conceded in the match's final 25 minutes.
The Mavericks scored three first-half goals in quick succession. After scoring her first goal of the season last Sunday against MSU Denver, Wells picked up right where she left off at Community Hospital Unity Field, dribbling the ball nearly half the length of the field down the left sideline before putting it in the net to cap a fantastic solo effort. Wells became the playmaker for goal number two, threading a through ball down the middle of the WCU defense for Randel, who outmuscled a defender to take a touch and score for the ninth time this year.
Just two minutes after getting on the field for the first time in the month of October, Beames was able to score for the first time this season and the fourth time in her career. Once again, the Mavericks had success advancing the ball down the left wing, and when the WCU keeper leapt outwards to get a hand on an attempted CMU cross, the deflection went straight to Beames, who slotted a ball on the ground through a traffic jam of defenders and in.
DeHerrera factored into both of CMU's second-half goals. She assisted on the first one, hitting Wells in stride with a pinpoint long-range pass over the top of the defense in the 62
nd minute. DeHerrera made it five on a pure hustle play seven minutes later, stealing the ball from Lozano and tapping it into an empty net.
Colorado Mesa took 23 shots compared to WCU's eight and outshot the visitors 15-4 in the second half. Western Colorado did earn eight corner kicks in the match while CMU had five corner kick opportunities.
A total of 25 Mavericks saw game time, including collegiate debuts for freshmen
Ariana Rawlings (12 minutes) and
Indigo Andresen (three minutes). Rawlings nearly had a dream start to her career with a shot on goal in the 73
rd minute, but Lozano made the save.
Sophomore forward
Talea Kuennen made her first appearance of the 2023 season after making 11 appearances with two goals as a freshman. Freshmen

Jada Lindquist (20 minutes) and
