GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 18 Colorado Mesa men's soccer team ran their win streak to four games after a 3-1 victory over the Simon Fraser Red Leafs on Saturday (Sept. 10) evening at Community Hospital Unity Field. The win also closed out the Colorado Mesa Kickoff Weekend presented by the DoubleTree by Hilton.
Both teams felt each other out or the first 25 minutes with Colorado Mesa coming out the aggressors firing off seven shots to the Red Leafs one. Then a foul in the box led to the first goal of the game.

Joey Joiner in the box to give the Mavericks a penalty kick in the 26
th minute.
Daisuke Takanaka stepped up to take the PK and delivered a stutter step shot to the lower right side of the net to give the Mavericks the 1-0 lead. For Takanaka, it was his second goal of the season.
Neither team made much happen heading into halftime. The Mavericks outshot the Red Leafs 11-2 in the half with Simon Fraser outfouling the Mavericks 9-4.
Just after the break, the Mavericks would go up 2-0 on a goal from freshman phenom
Manuel Ponce Casas in the 49
th minute. Ponce Casas wound up with the ball on his foot after Takanaka found him from the far side of the field in the box for the quick strike. It was the freshman's fifth goal of the season but he wasn't done yet.
Simon Fraser kept things interesting as Alan Camacho Soto put them on the board in the 60
th minute and cut the Maverick lead to 2-1. Camacho Soto scored off a corner kick from Ali Zohar that crept across the goal line just beyond the arm of Maverick goalie
Connor Durant.
Colorado Mesa would get the goal back on an early nomination for goal of the year. In the 84
th minute, Ponce Casas picked up his sixth goal of the year and second of the game to put the deficit out of reach at 3-1.
David Peters had the ball on his foot, streaking down the near sideline and crossed the ball into the box where it found the head of MPC who found the right-hand side of the net.
The Mavericks outshot Simon Fraser on the evening 21-9 and forced Red Leaf goalie Justyn Sandhu to make eight saves. Drant made four saves for the Mavericks and earned the win in net.

Joey Joiner each took four shots with three going on frame.
Colorado Mesa will be back in action next weekend at Community Hospital Unity Field when they take on Westminster in non-conference action on Friday evening.
