Mavericks Fall in RMAC Tournament Championship

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa baseball team fell in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament to MSU Denver 8-5 on Saturday (May 14) evening at The Diamond at the Bus Bergman Sports Complex.
 
MSU Denver took the early lead 2-0 after plating one in each of the second and third innings.
 
The Mavericks took their first lead of the game after a two-run home run by Caleb Farmer. It was the senior's 26th home run and gave him 77 RBIs for the season. The round tripper tied the game at 2-2.
 
Later in the inning, senior Matthew Turner delivered an RBI groundout to score Haydn McGeary. Just one batter later, Jordan Stubbings smoked a double to center field that brought around Spencer Bramwell to give the Mavericks a 4-2 lead after three innings.
 
The Roadrunners retook the lead after five innings after bringing around two runs in the fourth inning and a run in the fifth inning to make it 5-4.
 
Spencer Bramwell stepped to the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning and knotted the game up at 5-5 after his 22nd home run of the season. This one a solo shot on a 2-0 pitch frm Conner Nantkes.
 
MSU Denver took the lead for good in the top of the sixth inning and added insurance runs in the seventh inning to preserve the win.
 
Senior Jordan Stubbings finished the game 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI while Harrison Rodgers went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a run scored.
 
Haydn McGeary was the only other Maverick with multiple hits.
 
Blake Rohm made his first appearance on the mound in almost a month exactly. He earned the start and went two innings and allowed one run on one hit, walkedn none and struck out two in two innings of work. He did not factor into the decision.
 
Cole Seward took the tough luck loss in the game. The true freshman turned in a season-high three and a third innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits, walked two and struck out three.
 
Haydn McGeary, Harrison Rodgers, and Caleb Farmer were all named to the RMAC All-Tournament team.
 
The RMAC Champion Mavericks are a near shoe-in to be in the NCAA South Central Regional and will be likely one of two host sites for the region. They will find out tomorrow night at 8pm mountain time when the NCAA Selection Show will be aired on NCAA.com.
