#11 Mavericks Claim Series Victory over Regis

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 11 Colorado Mesa baseball team closed out the series with a 10-5 win over the Regis giving them the series win over the Rangers on Saturday (Apr. 16) afternoon at gusty Bergman Field in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.

The Mavericks surrendered one run in the top of the first inning but got it back and more in the bottom half. Spencer Bramwell blasted a three-run home run to right center to take the lead and not look back. Later in the inning, an error by the center fielder allowed two more runs to come across and give the Mavericks a 5-1 lead after one.

Bramwell hit his second home run of the game in the bottom of the third inning. The senior blasted a 1-1 pitch over the wall in left center field for a 6-1 lead.

After Regis scratched across a run in the top of the fifth, the Mavericks got it back and more for the second time in the game. Jordan Stubbings hit a two-run homer to left field followed by a RBI single by Harrison Rodgers later in the inning to make it 9-2.

The Mavericks final run of the game came on a solo home run by Haydn McGeary in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Newcomer Julian Boyd had three hits in the game and scored two runs while Bramwell went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and four runs driven in.

Rodgers, McGeary, and Chase Hamilton each finished with two hits.

Frankie Fitzgerald took the ball as the opener and pitched well coming off an injury. Fitzgerald allowed one run on one hit, walked one and struck out three in two innings of work. He threw just 33 pitches in his first outing since March 13.

Ryan Day took the ball from Fitzgerald and earned the win in relief. Day allowed four runs on nine hits walked one and struck out two in five and two-thirds innings. The innings count was his longest of the season and moved his record to 3-0 on the year.

Dave Henderson came on to pitch the final inning and a third to close out the game.
