DENVER, Colo. – The No. 7 Colorado Mesa baseball team's comeback attempt fell just short in a 10-9 loss to the MSU Denver Roadrunners in the series finale in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup.
After plating two runs in the top half of the first inning, the Mavericks fell behind 3-2 and never led since. They fell behind 8-3 after three innings and then scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning to cut into the lead 8-6.
Heading into the top of the seventh, the Mavericks scored two runs and still had the bases loaded with one out. Colorado Mesa then struck out and had an infield pop-up that ended the threat. They had runners on in both the eighth and ninth innings but could get the timely hit.
Caleb Farmer continued his fantastic weekend by posting a 3-for-5 performance with a double and a home run with three runs scored and two runs driven in. The home run was his 18
th of the season and leads the team and the conference.
Chase Hamilton and
Robert Sharrar each had two hits while
Julian Boyd had four runs driven in.
Colorado Mesa's
Dave Henderson was saddled with the loss and drops to 3-2 on the season.
MSU Denver's Ross Smith hit four home runs in the game. He hit one in the first, one in the third, one in the fourth and his last in the sixth innings.
The Mavericks will return home for their first home games in nearly a month. They will take on the Regis Rangers in a series in Grand Junction beginning on Thursday due to the upcoming Easter weekend.
