OGDEN, Utah— The Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team took on a NCAA Division I team for the second straight day and fell 6-1 on the road against Weber State University on Sunday morning here at the Ogden Athletic Club.
The Mavericks lone win came at No. 4 singles from
Jorge Abreu, who was leading 3-0 in the first set when his opponent Matteo Savio retired.
The Mavs also took two other sets into tiebreakers. In doubles,
Tegan Hartman and
Jandre van Wyk, dropped a very tight 7-6 (8-6) No. 3 match against Savio and Jordan Coutinho. In singles,
Christian Albrechtsen battled with Elyes Marouani, before falling 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 3 singles.
Weber State (3-8) won the other four singles matches in straight sets after winning all three doubles affairs.
The Mavericks, now 2-5 overall, will be on the road again Mar. 3-5, playing three Pacific West Conference foes in as many days in southern California, beginning against Biola, ranked 19
th in NCAA Division II according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll.
