Mavs take on another D-I foe

OGDEN, Utah— The Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team took on a NCAA Division I team for the second straight day and fell 6-1 on the road against Weber State University on Sunday morning here at the Ogden Athletic Club.
 
The Mavericks lone win came at No. 4 singles from Jorge Abreu, who was leading 3-0 in the first set when his opponent Matteo Savio retired.
 
The Mavs also took two other sets into tiebreakers.  In doubles, Tegan Hartman and Jandre van Wyk, dropped a very tight 7-6 (8-6) No. 3 match against Savio and Jordan Coutinho.  In singles, Christian Albrechtsen battled with Elyes Marouani, before falling 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) at No. 3 singles.
 
Weber State (3-8) won the other four singles matches in straight sets after winning all three doubles affairs.
 
The Mavericks, now 2-5 overall, will be on the road again Mar. 3-5, playing three Pacific West Conference foes in as many days in southern California, beginning against Biola, ranked 19th in NCAA Division II according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll.
