#1 Mavericks Move on in RMAC Tournament after 16-4 win over Regis

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The top-ranked Colorado Mesa baseball team picked up a 16-4 win over the Regis Rangers on Thursday to advance in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament. The Mavericks move onto the winner's bracket final tomorrow as one of two remaining unbeaten teams in the tournament.

Regis scored a run in the top half of the first inning but the Mavericks answered back on a two-run home run by Jordan Stubbings. His 12th home run of the season went out to left field and gave the Mavericks a 2-1 lead after an inning of play.

The Rangers wouldn't score again until the seventh inning while the Mavericks poured it on.

Colorado Mesa would add one in the third then in the fourth inning they executed the game to perfection. Chase Hamilton led off the inning with a single followed by a well-executed hit-and-run by Spencer Bramwell. Later, Matthew Turner hit an RBI double to left field and was followed by a two-run double by Haydn McGeary, his 23rd of the season. That gave the Mavericks a 7-1 advantage.

Bramwell finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three runs driven in. He hit his 10th home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth inning, a two-run shot to left field.

Stubbings finished his day 2-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs scored. He hit the one home run in the first inning and added another in the bottom of the eighth, a three-run jack down the line in left field.

In all, seven Mavericks had multi-hit games.

Lefty Ryan Day got the ball in game two and pitched well. Day (8-0) allowed two runs on five hits, walked three and struck out seven in six and two-thirds innings. He had two separate stints where he retired seven Rangers in a row.

Colorado Mesa is now 39-3 on the season while the Rangers season ends at 21-19.

The Mavericks will play the winner of the night game between UCCS and CSU Pueblo at 12pm tomorrow at Suplizio Field.
