PUEBLO, Colo. – After waiting nearly two weeks to play again, the No. 24 Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse team were ready to go and on the attack Friday afternoon against CSU Puelo, giving them their fourth straight win by a 17-10 decision. The win puts the Mavericks at 5-3 overall, and 4-0 in conference play.
Lauren Wick posted her second consecutive four goal game, adding an assist, two ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Kiley Davis also had a five-point game, behind two goals and a season high three assists.
Regan Wentz and
Taylor Jakeman each had hat tricks, while
Elizabeth Posavad scooped up five ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers.
Lula Mitchell and
Adelaine Charlsen shared time in the goal, each bagging four saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Regan Wentz put the Mavs up by two, scoring twice within the same minute. Wick and
Ashton Whittle tacked on two more goals to put the team up 4-0.
The Thunderwolves would get on the board at the 20-minute mark to end the Mavericks scoring run.
CMU would build their lead to 7-1, but CSUP put in two quick goals to cut the deficit to four. They would score the final two goals of the half, but the visiting Mavs held on for the 8-5 edge.
Coming out of the break, CSUP added two more goals to their total and pulled within one. Wick scored on a free position shot to put the team back in front by two. The Mavericks would then string together a 5-0 run to go up 14-8.
Taylor Jakeman netted back-to-back goals with under a minute to play, to push the game to its final, 17-10 score.
