Mavericks Block #21 Mountaineers in Regular Season Finale

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team limited No. 21 Western Colorado to just 22.2 percent from the field and blocked a season-high 15 shots in a 58-43 win on Friday evening in Brownson Arena in the final regular season home contest.

The win will give the Mavericks a home Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament game on Tuesday coupled with the Black Hills State loss to Colorado Christian on Friday evening.

Colorado Mesa's defense was the star of the night as they had a season-high 15 blocked shots in the game including nine off the hand of senior Kelsey Siemons. The nine blocked shots tied a school single game record that was most recently done by Susan Luecke during the 2000-01 season.

The senior nearly had a triple double as she finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and the nine blocked shots. She was 4-of-7 from the field including 3-for-5 from the three-point line. The double double was the second of the season for the Tucson native and the first since January 16.

The Mavericks outrebounded the Mountaineers 47-37 and limited them to less than 10 points in two of the four quarters. Western only scored six points in the final quarter where they were limited to 1-for-11 shooting from the field, a made three-pointer, and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line.

Kylyn Rigsby led the game in scoring as she shot 50 percent (8-for-16) from the field and poured in 20 points. She was 4-for-9 from beyond the arc and added an assist and two steals.

Senior Daniella Turner played her first significant minutes tonight as she logged over 30 minutes in the game. She was the final Maverick in double-digit scoring with 13 points on 6-for-12 shooting from the field and added three steals and a blocked shot.

Mountaineer Hannah Cooper finished with a team-high 18 points and eight rebounds.

Colorado Mesa finishes the regular season with a 13-7 mark and will have at least one home game in the RMAC Tournament for the third straight season.

The Mavericks opponent has yet to be determined but will be played at 5:30pm.
