Mavericks Go Ice Cold in Loss to Roadrunners

DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team dropped their first contest of the season on Sunday (Dec. 5) as they fell 56-50 to the MSU Denver Roadrunners at the Auraria Event Center in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

The Mavericks went the final six minutes and seven seconds scoreless as the Roadrunners went on a mini 6-0 run in that same time span to close the game out. Neither team held a lead for very long as the other countered.

MSU Denver took the first big lead as they jumped out to a nine-point lead with 6:21 to play in the first half at 20-11. The Mavericks cut it to three as they headed into the break trailing 28-25. Colorado Mesa countered as they took a three-point lead into the fourth quarter after converting on a four-point play.

The Mavericks knotted the contest up at 50-50 with 6:07 to play as Mariah Martin converted a three-point play, and one. They wouldn't score again.

Martin finished with a game-high 18 points and handed out seven assists while teammate Daniella Turner finished with 17 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.

Jaela Richardson and Allie Navarette each finished with 13 points to pace the Roadrunners. Morgan Griego finished with 19 rebounds.

The Mavericks will play their first home conference games next weekend. They will play host to Black Hills State and Chadron State next Friday and Saturday in Brownson Arena.
