Mavericks Win on Pair of Early Goals

Grand Junction, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa men's soccer team established themselves early, within the first 10-minutes to be exact, as they scored twice – two minutes separating one from the other, on the way to a 2-0 shutout of Regis Sunday on Maverick Field.

The Mavericks outshot the Rangers, 20-15 putting eight shots between the posts. Out of the Rangers 15, they managed to put just three shots on target. Ranger's keeper Tim Dolan did pick up six saves on the day, taking away quite a few of the Mavericks scoring opportunities. CMU got to the corner five times, and held possession for over 50% of the contest.

Just 6-minutes into play, a corner kick from Ramses Atahualpa was sent into the box, bouncing off the head of Isa Trujillo and then over to Alec Fronapfel who used his head to net his eight goal of the season.

Two minutes following, the Mavericks pushed their lead to two Atahualpa taking it up the sideline before handing it off to Gabriel Peres who crossed into to Fernando Morales who volleyed it into the top corner.

The Rangers took the first couple shots of the day, giving Connor Durant some action early. He would finish with three saves, on his way to his eighth shutout defending the net.

Just two games remain in the regular season for the Mavs, one being the long-awaited Top-25 matchup with Colorado School of Mines in Golden. They will stay in the front range to take on Colorado Christian next Sunday to close out the conference loop.
