GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 7 Colorado Mesa baseball team completed the four game series sweep of the Regis Rangers on Sunday (Mar. 8) afternoon with a 3-2 win at Supilzio Field in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference matchup.
The Mavericks had trouble solving Ranger starter Justin Kleinsorge early in the game as he retired the first 14 batters he faced. He finished the game allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits, walked none and struck out nine as he was handed his first loss of the season.
Kliensorge's one mistake came in the sixth inning. With runners on second and third with one out,
Haydn McGeary stepped to the plate. The first pitch he saw, he belted a three-run home run just to the right of center field for his ninth round tripper of the season.
The Mavericks used a bevy of pitchers on the day as six saw action on the mound.
Ryan Day made his first start in a Maverick uniform and pitched the first two innings of scoreless baseball as he allowed just one hit while striking out two.
Kannon Handy (2-0) earned the win after pitching a scoreless sixth inning, striking out two.
The Mavericks long home stand is now over as they will head out on the road for a four-game series with Colorado School of Mines in Golden.
