WICHITA FALLS, Texas— Facing their first nationally-ranked foe of the season, the Colorado Mesa University men's team was downed 5-0 by No. 13 Southwest Baptist University on Saturday morning in their last of three matches at the MSU-Texas Tennis Invitational.
The Mavericks went 0-3 on the weekend and fell to 6-6 overall this season. The Bearcats, ranked second in the Midwest Region, improved to 4-2 with the win.
They swept the three doubles matches and then won matches in the top four flights of singles play. The No. 5 and 6 matches went unfinished after the Bearcats won the opening set of both.
Adham Gaber, ranked fifth in the Midwest Region and 19
th nationally, won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles over
Christian Albrechtsen while David Szeri, ranked eighth in the region, took down
Alain De La Bastide, 6-1, 6-4 in the second flight.
The Mavericks will resume action next Saturday at No. 8 Azusa Pacific in Azusa, California, starting a 4-day swing through southern California.
