#5 Colorado Mesa Completes Four-game Sweep of #9 Mines

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The No. 5 Colorado Mesa baseball team completed the four-game sweep of the No. 9 Colorado School of Mines Orediggers in Sunday afternoon with a 15-11 win at Suplizio Field in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action.

The win runs the Mavericks winning streak to 10 that dates back to March 2 when the Mavericks defeated Dixie State in a doubleheader.

Colorado School of Mines led 11-9 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning when Hunter Douglas drew a bases loaded walk to cut the Oredigger lead to one at 11-10. Caleb Farmer followed with a two-run single to left field to give the Mavericks the lead for good at 12-11.

The Mavericks got some insurance in the bottom of the seventh inning when Trevin Reynolds hit a RBI single to left field while later in the inning Tyler Sandoval hit his second of two home runs in the game.

Sandoval finished the game 4-for-5 with three runs scored and four runs driven in. He hit a pair of home runs and finished just a double short of the cycle.

Sophomore Spencer Bramwell went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and one run driven in. The San Clemente, Calif. native hit his third home run of the season in the bottom of the third inning, a solo shot to right center to knot the game at 6-6.

Dominic DeMarco and Caleb Farmer also had multi-hit games and combined for seven runs driven in during the series finale.

Seven Mavericks pitched in the fourth game of the series with freshman Jahred Butler earning the win. Butler (1-0) allowed one hit and walked one in his inning of work.

Senior Will Dixon earned the save after pitching the final two and a third innings, allowing just one hit, walking two while striking out two including the final batter of the game. The save was Dixon's third of the season.

Colorado Mesa improves to 20-2 on the season and moves to 8-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while Mines falls to 13-6, 4-4 in the conference.

The Mavericks are back on the road next weekend when they travel to Colorado Springs to take on UCCS beginning on Friday.
