No. 12 Mavericks Sweep Doubleheader, Series from Regis

DENVER, Colo. – The No. 12 Colorado Mesa baseball team completed the four-game sweep of the Regis Rangers with a doubleheader sweep on Sunday at Regis Baseball Field to complete the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opening weekend.
 
In game one, the Mavericks offense had their best output of the season scoring 18 runs on 16 hits on their way to an 18-9 win over the Rangers.
 
Three Mavericks finished the game with three hits. Senior Hunter Douglas finished 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and three runs driven in. He hit his team-leading fifth home run of the season in the top of the seventh inning, a three-run, no-doubter to left field.
 
Sophomore catcher Spencer Bramwell went 3-for-6 with three runs scored and three runs driven in. The San Clemente, Calif. native hit his first collegiate home run in the second inning, a two-run shot to left field.
 
Not to be outdone, Jordan Stubbings went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and three doubles.
 
Freshman Haydn McGeary continued his torrid pace with his third home run of the season in the fourth inning, a three-run dinger to right center.
 
Freshman Nathan Wilson made his first conference start of the season and made it through the fifth inning to earn the win. Wilson (2-0) allowed seven runs (six earned) on nine hits, walked three and struck out four in 97 pitches.
 
In the series finale, the Mavericks exploded for an eight-run sixth inning to break open a close game and went on to in 12-2 to complete the sweep.
 
In the eight-run sixth inning, the Mavericks sent 10 batters to the plate before the Rangers recorded an out. They scored eight runs on eight hits in the inning.
 
Dominic DeMarco finished the game 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, two runs scored and four runs driven in. The home run was DeMarco's fourth of the season.
 
Chase Hamilton finished his solid weekend with a career feat in the finale. Hamilton hit his first collegiate home run in the sixth inning, a two-run homer to left field.
 
AJ Landis earned the win on the mound after going four and a third innings and allaowed two runs on five hits, walked two and struck out two. Landis (2-0) threw 78 pitches before giving way to the bullpen.
 
Colorado Mesa improves their record to 16-2 on the season and 4-0 in the conference heading into next weekend's showdown with Colorado School of Mines at Suplizio Field.
