GRAND JUNCTION, COLO- The Colorado Mesa University women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the 2018 season Friday night at Walker Field. The Mavericks battled with the Pioneers of Cal State-East Bay who continue their undefeated streak. The Pioneers won 1-0 against the Mavericks. CMU is now 2-1-0.

Emily Signorio started as goal keeper for the Mavericks and Briana Vasquez-Ortiz started as goal keeper for the Pioneers. The Mavericks have now started a different goal for each game in the 2018 season.
Zoe Peterson took a shot early for the Mavericks that ended up being above the goal.
Emily Signorio recorded her first save of the game after a shot from East Bay's Keionna Claypoole who had just previously been subbed in. Signorio recorded a total of four saves throughout the game.
Lexi Newton followed with another shot ten minutes later that resulted in a save by Vasquez-Ortiz.
In the 44
th minute a trio of Pioneers were responsible for the only goal of the game. Miranda Gonzalez crossed a pass to Keionna Claypool who headed it down in a position for Kayla Morales to net her first goal of the season. Now the Mavericks were down a goal entering the second half.
During the beginning of the second half the Mavericks had a couple opportunities to attack but they resulted in an offside call from the refs. The Mavericks did not attempt a shot till the 83
rd minute when Newton went too high for the net. Two minutes later
Alexis Allard attempted to tie the game but the shot was blocked. This was the last shot attempted by the Mavericks. Despite being up, the Pioneers continues to be aggressive in the second half and outshot the Mavericks 7-2.
