No. 11 Mavericks travel to Utah for Matches against Westminster and Dixie

Mavs are tied for second in RMAC standings

The Mavericks will travel this weekend to Salt Lake City on Friday and St. George on Sunday. The game time Friday against Westminster is set for 1:30 p.m. and Sundays match against Dixie State is set for 2:30 p.m.

(Friday's game time at Westminster has been changed to 1:30 p.m. This was announced Thursday afternoon. Previously this game was set for 3 p.m.)

Westminster and the Mavericks will both enter Friday's match undefeated. Dixie State has yet to find their first conference win. Before the match on Sunday Dixie will have an opportunity against Fort Lewis College on Friday night.

McGhee Can Do It All

The RMAC named James McGhee the Defensive Player of the Week. The Mavericks improved their record by two wins last weekend after defeating Colorado Christian and MSU-Denver. McGhee netted a goal and was a part of a defense that only allowed four shots on goal.  This was his third goal of the season.

This is the back-to-back weeks that a Maverick has been named Player of the Week after Lawan Abary was named Offensive Player of the Week two weeks ago.

United Soccer Coaches Association

The Mavericks have continuously improved their national ranking over the season. In the preseason poll the Mavericks earned the No 21 spot but as of Sept 25 when the fourth poll was released the Mavericks are now ranked No. 11.

Winning Streak Continues

The Mavericks are currently on an eleven game regular season unbeaten streak. The last time the Mavericks lost a regular season match was Oct 8 2017 against UCCS. The Mavericks lost 1-3.  In these eleven games the Mavericks have only tied once and that was in their 2018 RMAC season opener against Fort Lewis College.

Westminster Griffins

The Griffins of Salt Lake City will host the Mavericks Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. The Griffins enter the match with a 7-0-1 overall record and a 3-0-1 RMAC record. The Griffins are currently on a three game winning streak.

Westminster, the Mavericks, and Fort Lewis are all tied in the RMAC standing with 3-0-1 record and ten conference points. Fort Lewis and CMU are each other's ties and Westminster previously tied with Dixie State.

The Mavericks are also on a three game winning streak and have yet to be defeated. These are not the only commonality of the two teams. Both teams are averaging three goals per game.

The Mavericks have netted 21 goals on the season while limiting their opponents to only eight and the Griffins have netted 24 goals and have limited their opponents to only seven.

The Griffins have two players who each have netted five goals. #9 Danny Darelli and #8 Kaden Amano lead Westminster in both goals and points, posting 12 and ten points, respectively.

Dixie State

Dixie State will enter this weekend with a 0-3-1 conference record and is tied for second to last in the RMAC with only one point. Dixie is currently on a three game losing streaking and their last win comes from a 3-1 game against Notre Dame De Namur in the beginning of September.

Dixie State is led by #7 Moises Medina who has three goals on the season. He leads the team with six points.
