Walker Field Welcomes Colorado Christian and MSU-Denver

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO- The Mavericks will return home this weekend for a match against Colorado Christian University and Metro State University Denver. The first game will take place at Walker Field on Friday night at 7 p.m. CCU will enter the match with a 0-5 overall record and a 0-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record. The MSU-Denver Roadrunners currently have a 3-3 overall record an a 2-0 RMAC record. Before the match with the Mavericks on Sunday the Roadrunner will take on Fort Lewis College on Friday night. Sunday's game will take place at Walker Field at 1 p.m.

Lawan Abary Snags Offensive Player of the Week Award

After last weekend's performance the RMAC named Lawan Abary the Offensive Player of the Week.The Mavericks went 1-1 last weekend after a tie against Fort Lewis and a win against CSU-Pueblo. Over the two games last weekend Abary netted six goals. Four of those goals came from the Mavericks win against CSU-Pueblo. This dominating performance occurred in only 47 minutes of playing time. In only three games as a Maverick Abary has recorded 14 points and broke the single game goals record at Colorado Mesa University. Prior to this game the record was three goals. Abary passed CMU alumni Roy Ebergil and Eric Anderson who were tied at three each. Currently Abary has a shots on goal percentage of 80%. This is the first RMAC Player of the Week award for the Mavericks this season

Miller Makes History

Matthew Miller also found a place in the record book. He assisted three of Abary's goals and is now the CMU single game assist leader.  There were a number of previous Mavericks who were able to record two assist in a game but Miller became the first Maverick to ever record three. Abary and Miller accounted for 13 of the team's 16 points in the Mavericks win against CSU-Pueblo.

About Colorado Christian University

The Cougars of Colorado Christian have yet to net a goal this season and have been outscored by 24 goals in their five games. The Cougars are averaging 3.8 shots per game. Dmitri Fabio and Dohnovyn Jackson lead the Cougars with three shots each.

The Mavericks have never lost to CCU and only allowed four goals in 19 games played. In the past 11 years the Mavericks are 18-0-1 against the Cougars.

About MSU-Denver

The Roadrunners will travel to Walker Field on Sunday afternoon. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m. Previous to this match the Roadrunners will compete against the Skyhawks of Fort Lewis College on Friday night. Entering this weekend the Roadrunners are 2-0 in RMAC play. They are currently shooting a shots on goal percentage of 42% while their opponents are shooting only 33%. The Roadrunners are lead by Gianni Steijlen who has five points on the season. In six games he has netted two goals and recorded one assist.

Metro State had an impressive win during the preseason against #15 St. Edwards University. The Roadrunners won that match 1-0.

The Mavericks have won the last two matches against the Roadrunners and in their last match the Mavs netted five goals.
