Seniors Dominate in Senior Night Route of Grizzlies

Eleven Mavericks score on senior night in Colorado Mesa University's 20-1 route of the Adams State University (ASU) Grizzlies. Seniors Jessica Cook and Hannah Payton led the way for a combined nine points on the night.

CMU opened up the contest scoring early, often and at will. The Mavericks jumped out to an 8-0 lead with 19 minutes still to play in the first half. The Grizzlies were able to slip one in to end the bleeding, but it proved to be not much help in the long run.

Following the Grizzlies score, the Mavericks would close out the game on a 12-0 run, including five goals in the second half.

Offensively the Mavericks could not be stopped for a majority of the night. They put up 30 shots compared to the Grizzlies 6. That equals out to two thirds of the CMU shot attempts were goals, which is an efficient night for any team.

Both teams started playing a little sloppy towards the end of the night, resulting in 38 total turnovers for both teams.

Cook was one of three Mavericks to finish with a hat trick on the night, giving her 38 regular season goals in her final year with CMU. Payton added in two goals and four assists in her senior game as well. Fellow seniors Jenny Lange and Miley Ernst also finished with points on the night, both finishing with two apiece.

Lindsi Peters and Kiley Barber also had solid nights for CMU, with both netting hat tricks and having an assist to their totals.

Lula Mitchell was in goal once again, and she got her 11th win of the year tallying four saves on one goal allowed.

CMU finishes out the regular season with an 11-3 record and a 7-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) record. Next up for CMU will be the RMAC tournament starting next weekend.
