Kimbri Herring registered her second shutout of the season after another solid
McKenzie Surface pitching effort as the nation's top-ranked Colorado Mesa University Mavericks continued to roll with yet another Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doubleheader and series sweep, here at the New Mexico Highlands University Softball Complex on Sunday.

The Mavericks posted 9-1 and 14-0 wins, the second of which was finished in five innings due to the mercy rule, and are still perfect at 22-0 overall and 12-0 in conference play after claiming series sweeps against Chadron State and at Adams State prior to this weekend.

After winning 23-0 and 10-1 on Saturday, the Mavericks outscored the Cowgirls 56-2 throughout the weekend series and have now outscored their RMAC foes by a combined 145-11 margin.Â

They hit 13 home runs in the 4-game set against the Cowgirls, who fell to 4-16 (0-11 RMAC).

In Sunday's first game,
AnnMarie Torres hit her team-leading ninth homer of the season to plate two runs as part of a 3-run sixth. She went 3-for-5 as the first five Mavericks in the lineup combined for 10 of the squad's 13 hits.

Meanwhile,
McKenzie Surface allowed just six hits, a single walk and just one run while improving to 12-0 on the year with what was her tenth complete games.

In the second game, the Mavericks scored in each of the five innings while combining for 15 hits, eight of which were for extra-bases.

Brooke Hodgson led the charge going 4-for-4 with four runs and five RBI as she blasted two home runs.Â
Kellie Mrofcza,
Kaila Jacobi and
Hailey Hinson also hit bombs in the game as Hinson finished the weekend with four.Â

Mrofcza was 2-for-2 with two walks and scored on all four occasions while driving in three runs.
Â
Jacobi, who had three homers in the series, went 3-for-4 went three RBI and added a double while Hinson went 2-for-3.

Inside the circle, Herring gave up just four hits and did not walk any Cowgirls while striking out five. She is now 7-0 on the year and has two shutouts and five complete games.

The Mavericks will remain on the road next weekend playing four games at UCCS (8-16, 3-9 RMAC) on Saturday and Sunday before returning home to the CMU Softball Stadium for 16 of their next 20 starting Mar. 24 against the Colorado School of Mines, which swept the Mountain Lions in a weekend series in Golden.
