DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa women's basketball team couldn't have picked a worse time to go cold from the three-point line as they fell 71-58 to MSU Denver in the quarterfinals of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament at the Auraria Events Center.
The Mavericks finished the night 4-for-15 (26.7 percent) from the three-point line yet shot a respectable 43.5 percent (20-for-46) from the field. The Roadrunners shot 46.9 percent from the field and made eight three-point baskets after entering the night as the worst three-point shooting team in the RMAC.
MSU Denver led by as many as 21 points at 65-44 with 4:09 to play in the game while Colorado Mesa's largest lead was by four points at 6-2 with 7:46 remaining in the first quarter.
They also outrebounded MSU Denver 30-28 on the night. It is just the second time this season Colorado Mesa outrebounded their opponent and lost.
Turnovers also plagued the Mavericks on the evening. They committed 16 turnovers that led to 21 Roadrunner points.
Junior
Jaylyn Duran scored a team-high 17 points on 6-for-14 shooting from the field. She added two assists and a rebound.
Senior
Ma'ata Epenisa finished with 14 points while fellow senior
Erin Reichle chipped in 10 points.
J'Nae Squires-Horton led the Roadrunners with 18 points while teammate Georgia Ohrdorf had a double-double, finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Colorado Mesa ends their season with a 19-10 overall record.
