GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Colorado Mesa Mavericks hosted MSU-Denver for a quarterfinals match up in the 2018 RMAC Men's Soccer Tournament. After defeating the Roadrunners 2-0 the Mavericks will advance to the semifinals for a match up against Westminster. Chris Boyd and Matthew Miller each recorded a goal to push the Mavericks past the Roadrunners. The Mavericks improved to a 12-4-2 record.

Earlier this morning Briley Guarneri was named RMAC Goalkeeper of the Year and tonight he recorded his final start as goalkeeper on Walker Field.
The Mavericks only took three shots before netting the first goal of the game. 15 minutes into the first half Kevin Del Mazo took a corner kick that landed in front of the bottom of the goal on the left side. Amongst a herd of Mavericks and Roadrunners Chris Boyd kicked in his third goal of the season and third game-winning goal.
Within the same minute the Roadrunners attempted to tie with a goal of their own but Guarneri proving why he was named Goalkeeper of the Year saved the shot. He totaled five throughout the match.
Late in the first half James McGhee, who was named First Team All-RMAC earlier this morning, blocked a shot attempted using his head to force the roadrunners to a scoreless first half.
The Mavericks netted another goal in the beginning plays of the second half. Â About 15 minutes into the second half Matthew Miller drilled the ball into the back of the net. Matthew Miller received the ball from Ethan Anderson at the top center of the penalty box and fired in his third goal of the season.
The senior from Grand Junction was named to the Honorable Mention All-RMAC team earlier this morning. This was his third goal of the season.
The Mavericks defended seven more shots by the Roadrunners after this goal. They took 15 shots throughout the entire match. Five of them were on goal.
The Mavericks took 19 total shots and eight shots on goal throughout the entire match. Niall Shaffery and Lawan Abary took a team high three shots. Two of Shaffery's were on goal for another team high.
RMAC Tournament Semifinals
The Mavericks will travel to Golden, Colo. for a match against Westminster on Friday Nov 2. The match will be held at Stermole Stadium where Colorado School of Mines will host the remaining matches of the RMAC Tournament. The time of the match will announced soon.
