This weekend the Mavericks will host Dixie State on Friday at 7 pm and Westminster on Sunday at 1 pm. Both games this weekend will be held at Walker Field. The Mavericks enter this weekend with a 6-0-2 RMAC record and 8-0-3 overall record.
Senior Send Off
Before Sunday's match against Westminster the Mavericks will honor the team's four seniors. This year's seniors include Briley Guarneri, James McGhee, Kevin Del Mazo, and Matthew Miller.
Combined this senior class has an overall record of 52-11-11 and with six more scheduled regular reason games the Mavs could continue to improve that. This class has made it to the NCAA Tournament each year and in 2016 they were named RMAC Regular Season Champions and Tournament Champions. This senior class has been apart of a Maverick team that has been ranked nationally for 20 consecutive weeks dating back to September of 2016. With the success this senior class has accomplished head coach Todd Padgett believes that their leadership will leave a lasting impression.
"They are the foundation of our program and will be missed beyond belief. While forever missed, the impression on our underclassmen and future leaders will be lasting, and they are a prime example of what being a Mav entails in the classroom, the community, and on the field. They will be leaders in their communities, wonderful partners and fathers, and people that facilitate the growth of everyone within their reach."
 "What an honor and joy it has been to coach these men the last several years. While words will never do justice, we will attempt to express our gratitude and respect." Padgett mentioned early Thursday morning.
Senior Stats
This senior class has stamped their name all over the record book. Del Mazo made himself the all-time career assist leader this season when he recorded his 23rd career assist on Sept 21 against Colorado Christian University. The Santiago, Chile native currently has 24 career assists. Among this Del Mazo is second in game-winning goals at seven. He has recorded two game-winning goals this season. Â The forward sensation is third in career goals with 19.
Guarneri is one of the Mavericks all-time greatest goal keepers. He leads in the following categories: goalie minutes played (6402), goalie games started (62), goalie games played (69), most shutouts (34.0) and most wins (49). The Gilbert, Ariz. native is second in saves (209) and saves percentage (.801). With games remaining Guarneri has the opportunity to pass the current leader who has a saves percentage of 0.812. Â
McGhee and Matthew have each found there success in their careers and senior seasons. McGhee has started in 55 career games. He has been named Defensive Player of the Week twice in his career including one this season. As a sophomore he was highlighted on the RMAC All-Tournament team. He has five career goals and three career assists. Two of those three assists were recorded this year. Â
Matthew Miller has played in 67 matches as a Maverick making 27 career starts. He has recorded 10 career assists and seven goals. This season alone he has recorded two goals and five assists. Â Last season he was Honorable Mention All-RMAC.
With six more matches remaining in the season Padgett mentioned, "It is fun to think about the memories created with this group over their time, and I'm so excited to know they aren't done yet in their pursuit of this season's team goals.
This year's senior class is in pursuit of their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and Padgett's fifth consecutive appearance.
Guarneri Seeking 50th Win
This weekend Briley Guarneri will be playing for his 50th win. The Gilbert, Ariz. native currently has a 49-10-10 record when playing goal keeper for the Mavericks. He currently owns a career saves percentage of 0.801 and has recorded 209 saves in his career.
RMAC Showdown Announcement
Earlier this week the NCAA announced that the Mavericks would participate in the NCAA Division II Showcase featuring a matchup between the Mavericks and the Orediggers. The two top RMAC teams are set to compete on Friday Oct 19 at 4:05 p.m. in Golden, Colo. The game will be televised by Altitude Sports.
This Weekend's Match up
Dixie State will enter Friday's match at Walker Field with a 1-5-2 conference record. In the previous meeting this season with the Trailblazer's the Mavericks walked away with a 2-1 victory. Kevin Del Mazo and Tristan Widic each found the back of the net that match.
Westminster currently has a conference record of 5-2-1. Before traveling to Grand Junction on Sunday they will play Fort Lewis College on Friday. Westminster is in fourth place in this weeks RMACÂ standings.
