GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa advanced to the semifinals of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Shootout after a 73-63 win over Colorado Mines on Tuesday afternoon in Brownson Arena.
The Mavericks trailed by as many as 13 points in the first quarter but rallied in the waning minutes of the quarter to trail by seven, 18-11. They committed four turnovers with Mines scoring seven points off those turnovers in the first.
Colorado Mesa went on an 8-2 run to open the second quarter of play and finished the quarter with a35-25 lead heading into the break. They outscored the Orediggers 24-7 in the quarter and shot over 61 percent in the second.
The Mavericks withstood the second half rally and played Colorado Mines even in the second half.
Erin Reichle paced the Mavericks with 21 points and five assists. She shot 50 percent (6-for-12) from the field including a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe and 3-for-5 from downtown.
Tori Catlett and
Kim Childress provided the second quarter spark for the Mavericks as each finished with five points and six rebounds in the game.
Bryanna Adams finished with 15 points and
Jaylyn Duran added 12 to round out the Mavericks double-digit scorers.
Mines' Emily Bailey led all scorers with 23 points.
Colorado Mesa moved its record to 21-6 on the season while Colorado Mines finishes their season at 17-15.
The Mavericks will play either MSU Denver or UCCS in the semifinals of the RMAC Shootout on Friday in Pueblo. CSU-Pueblo will play Regis in the other semifinal matchup.
