GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa limited New Mexico Highlands to 12 points in the second and third quarters combined in an 87-39 win on Friday evening in Brownson Arena in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball matchup.
The Mavericks limited the Cowgirls to 30 percent shooting in the game and forced 22 Highlands turnovers. Colorado Mesa converted 22 points off of those turnovers.
The Mavericks led for all but nine seconds of the game while it was tied 0-0 and led by as many as 50 with 7:45 to go in the fourth quarter at 78-28 after a
Holly Brooks layup.
Colorado Mesa was led by the hot shooting of
Jaylyn Duran as she finished with a game-high 18 points. She was 7-for-8 from the field including 4-for-5 from beyond the three-point line.
Bryanna Adams finished with 14 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field while
Erin Reichle finished with 13 points to round out the Mavericks in double figures.
Sydney Small led the bench scoring with eight points and pulled down a game-high six rebounds. In all 15 Mavericks saw action on the floor.
Colorado Mesa improves to 19-6 on the season and 16-5 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference while the Cowgirls fall to 2-23 on the season and 1-20 in the conference.
With a win tomorrow, Colorado Mesa will clinch a home RMAC Tournament game on Tuesday at 6pm. A loss could force a four-way tie for second place.
The Mavericks will play host to nationally ranked CSU-Pueblo tomorrow in the final regular season home game at 5:30pm in Brownson Arena.
