GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. – The Colorado Mesa Mavericks men's soccer team got their first win of the season (5-1) against the Fort Lewis Skyhawks in the Double Tree Mesa Classic Sunday (Sept. 4) at Walker Field.
Kevin Del Mazo with the second goal of the game for the Mavericks after Tamino Kroeger scored the first and only goal for the Skyhawks. The Mavericks scored four of their five goals in the first half.
Trentin Atkin scoring two in the first half and
Roy Abergil with one in the first half and one in the second. Abergil and Atkin having many opportunities for a hat trick in the second half, just couldn't get one to fall.
The Mavericks outshot the Skyhawks in shots 18-6 at the end of regulation.
Goalie for the Mavericks,
Briley Guarneri had three saves, while the Skyhawks goalies, Elliot Chadderton had two saves and Jack Jordan had five saves.
Colorado Mesa men's soccer will hit the road to Texas next weekend. There they will face St. Mary's University (Sept. 9) and St. Edwards University (Sept. 11).
