GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Third-ranked Colorado Mesa and 13
th-ranked Dixie State went toe-to-toe with each other in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at Suplizio Field. The Red Storm pulled out a 13-12 win in a see-saw battle that saw 14 pitchers used in the game.
Dixie State raced out to a 3-0 lead after the first half inning of play as the Red Storm had four hits, paired with a walk in the inning.
The Mavericks clawed back and took a 6-3 lead after six complete innings.
The Red Storm scored six runs in the top half of the seventh inning on four hits and three walks, all of which scored in the inning.
After sitting the Mavericks down in order, Dixie State scored three more times in the top of the eighth inning.
Then it was Colorado Mesa's turn.
The Mavericks evened the game after eight innings at 12-12. They scored their six runs on six hits and an error.

Dixie State plated a single run in the top of the ninth while the Mavericks went down in order.
Alex Fife finished the game 2-for-5 with two runs scored and three runs driven in. He hit his first home run of the season in the Mavericks three run fourth inning.
Third baseman
Greg Reynolds went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a stolen base.
Reliever
Tanner Herdt kept the Mavericks in the game. Herdt went five innings and allowed four runs (all in the seventh) on four hits, walked two and struck out seven.
Colorado Mesa's record falls to 8-3 while Dixie State improved to 12-2 overall.
The Mavericks will be on the road next weekend to open up Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. They will take on Colorado Christian in a four-game series at All-Star Park in Lakewood.
