Mavericks, Hilltoppers Play to 0-0 tie

Box Score AUSTIN, Texas – In an early season matchup of nationally ranked teams, No. 4 Colorado Mesa and No. 12 St. Edward's played to a nil-nil tie at Lewis Chen Family Field in a NCAA South Central Region men's soccer match.
 
St. Edward's doubled up the Mavericks on shots 12-6 but committed 21 fouls with three yellow cards to the Mavericks six fouls and one yellow card.
 
In the 37th minute, All-American defender Blake Carlson was whistled for a foul and was given a red card. That forced the Mavericks to play the remaining 73 minutes with 10-men.
 
Freshman Moshe Perez had a team-leading three shots with one coming on goal.
 
Colorado Mesa started freshman Briley Guarneri in goal. Guarneri picked up the shutout in his first appearance making four saves while facing 12 shots.
 
The Mavericks will close out their Texas road trip with a match against 20th ranked Midwestern State in Wichita Falls. Last season, Colorado Mesa defeated the Mustangs in the NCAA South Central Regional 1-0 at Walker Field
